Staple Jewish Deli To Close Dec.31
Posted by Katherine Noland on Dec 27, 2012 - 2:28:18 PM

WESTWOOD—After serving the Westwood community for 53 years, the staple Jewish restaurant Junior’s Deli will be closing December 31 due to a rent dispute.

Much to the staff and patrons’ dismay, the once deli turned restaurant, delicatessen, bakery, and caterer will no longer be at its 2379 Westwood Boulevard location. Originally on Pico Boulevard, the restaurant moved to where it is now in 1967 and has remained a popular Westside favorite for its fresh and delectable Jewish cuisine.

Marvin Saul, a uranium miner who arrived in Los Angeles with 35 cents in his pocket, opened the restaurant in 1959. His two sons, David and Jon, continued the family tradition by owning and operating the restaurant after Saul passed away last December. The Junior’s staff consists of 150 employees, many of whom have been employed there for over 20 years. It is known as a landmark in the Westwood community, and receives several celebrity sightings including Mel Brooks, Bruce Willis, and Dr. Dre.

Junior’s Facebook status reads, “Juniors is sad to announce that we are closing due our lease not being renewed by the landlord after 53 years. We are closing the door December 31 at 5 p.m. Please come in and support the Juniors Family. We would love to see you. We are currently looking for another location and hope to re-open in the future. We love our customers and staff and thank you all for being there for us.”
