UCLA Sexual Assault Suspect Surrenders
Posted by Melissa Simon on Oct 7, 2013 - 3:24:40 PM

WESTWOOD—A man suspected of attempting to sexually assault several University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) students turned himself into police on Sunday, October 6, according to authorities.

Daniel Fernando Hoyos Isaza, 20, was suspected of sexually assaulting a female student near UCLA’s Rieber Hall on Friday, October 4, at around 2:30 a.m. The attack was interrupted by two witnesses and the suspect then fled the scene, according to a statement issued by UCLA.

Lt. Mark Littlestone, with UCLA's Investigations Division, told Canyon News several crimes related to this suspect were reported.

"[There's] the initial attempt sexual assault, a sexual battery and now it appears there may be two or three other reports of battery/sexual battery wherein he grabbed the buttocks of two other female victims in the same area and [then] grabbed another victim," Littlestone said. "These all occurred within a 30-minute time span and all in the same general area," he added.

The campus police issued an alert for a suspect that was described as “male, light skinned, 20-25 years old, 5’10”-6’1”, 180-200lbs [with] short brown hair, with thin mustache.”

Isaza, a resident of Santa Clarita, turned himself into campus police on October 6 and will be transferred into the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department's custody to be booked at the Inmate Reception Center downtown, according to the alert.

"Why he turned himself in, I can't speculate, other than his face was plastered all over the news," Littlestone said.

The case is currently under investigation and anyone with information on this incident or similar incidents has been asked to contact UCLA campus police at 310-825-1491 and use the reference number 13-1706. For anonymous tips, call 310-794-5824.
