Vandalism In UCLA Due To Rivalry Week
Posted by Ivetta Babadjanian on Nov 13, 2012 - 8:03:12 PM

WESTWOOD—Long-time rivals, USC and UCLA, will have their football teams go head-to-head on Saturday, November 17 at the Rose Bowl. Thus, the annual rivalry week has begun between the two with a case of vandalism.

A UCLA sign at the northern entrance of the campus on Sunset Boulevard was vandalized to read "USC" with red paint and letters "L" and "A" were crossed out. The sign was surrounded by red and yellow spray paint, the USC colors, depicting obscene images.

It is unclear when the vandalism took place, however, it was reported at around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 12. UCLA campus police have stated that an increase of patrols have been issued around the Bruin Bear and Pauley Pavilion for the duration of rivalry week.

Many students at USC were camped out in order to guard the university's Tommy Trojan statue to deter possible vandalism attempts. Additionally, the Trojan swords that used to be on the entry ramp to the USC locker room has been placed in a wooden box with the words "Fight On!" written on it.

The Bruins currently obtain a 8-2 season as the Trojans have a 7-3 season. The winner of Saturday's game will represent the Pac-12 South in the conference championship game and could potentially be in the BCS bowl game.
