Jerico Culata, an 18-year-old resident, ran off the roadway with his bicycle and collided with a cement wall at 9:50 p.m. He wasn’t wearing a bicycle safety helmet at the time of the collision. Culata was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m.

Detectives from the West Traffic Division are conducting the investigation. Members of the Los Angeles Police Department strongly encourage the cycling community to wear a safety helmet whenever riding a bicycle. All cyclists under the age of 18 are required by law to wear a bicycle safety helmet.
