WOODLAND HILLS—Police officials have recovered the rented van belonging to 80s band, A Flock of Seagulls, which was stolen in the early hours on Sunday, July 21.

All contents within the vehicle, including custom guitars, a drum kit, studio equipment and merchandise, were emptied out by the culprit. Police officials designate the value of the equipment and other articles in the van at $70,000.

Patrols discovered the white 1999 Ford E-350 during the evening hours, on Tuesday, July 23. The parked vehicle was found near Los Nietos Park in Santa Fe Springs.

After performing in Bellflower on Saturday night, the New Wave band reportedly checked into a Downey Comfort Inn; once at the hotel, the group parked their vehicle near the reception area of the hotel around 1:45 a.m. Hotel security footage shows a man in another vehicle breaking into and stealing the van at around 2:15 a.m. The band didn't suspect the missing vehicle until they awoke around 9 a.m. on Sunday.

The English rockers were set to perform that same day at a free outdoor concert in Woodland Hills; the Valley Cultural Center had invited the band to play in Warner Park for the Center's free Concerts on the Green series.

The earnest band continued with the show, wherein they played with rented equipment. Of particular importance were the hard drives to a new album, which resided in the van. Frontman Mike Score had been working on the nearly completed solo album for 18 months. The leading man believes the thief might have pursued the band after their Saturday night show in Bellflower.

The Liverpool band grew in popularity with their 1982 hit song “I Ran (So Far Away).” The group later disbanded, though Score still tours under the band name.
