WOODLAND HILLS—The Los Angeles Fire Department, Woodland Hills Station #105 received a $5,000 grant on July 2 during a special event that was held at the station located on 6345 Fallbrook Avenue.

According to a news release from the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, the grant will assist with new fitness equipment and tools. The grant was awarded by CITA Insurance Services and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.

The grant will fund a state-of-the-art treadmill, to keep firefighters in top shape to respond to emergencies quickly. The grant will also provide funds to purchase a wire feed welder for fixing tools and equipment at the station.

“We are very thankful for the support from CITA Insurance Services and Fireman’s Fund,” said Karen Wagener of the LAFD Foundation. “By remaining healthy and safe, firefighters can better protect the community.  A firefighter’s job is very strenuous and we’re committed to helping them maintain healthy lives and staying physically fit throughout their careers.”

The Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company is a nationwide philanthropic program, that is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It was founded in 1863, and since 2004, has given grants to more than 2,100 various organizations totaling more than $31 million; about $9 million in the state of California.

Canyon News spoke with Shoni Honodel from Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company via email about the event. “We had about 20 people attend today's grant presentation at the Woodland Hills Station #105. Our agent, CITA Insurance was introduced to the needs of the Woodland Hills Station through a partnership with CalSurance and White House Properties,” said Honodel.

“Firefighters have incredibly demanding jobs – putting their lives on the line to save others.  It’s important to support their health and safety,” said John Jasinksi, executive vice president of CITA Insurance Services.  “We are pleased to be able to show our gratitude for all the department does for the community.”
