WOODLAND HILLS—Continuing to perform shows on women of historical importance, Martha Abbey Miller will make an appearance on Wednesday, July 24 at the Woodland Hills Country Club.

The “accidental” dramatist, as she describes her career in drama, will perform “Letters Through The Ages” for the Woodland Hills Rotary Club. The portrayal weaves an inter-connected exploration and historical contextualization of selected writers' diaries and letters, including Charles and Anne Lindbergh, Margaret Mitchell, Anne Frank and Ansel Adams.

“My story is a layered one, hopefully designed so that at its end, the audience is impressed with three things: the power of a letter (especially in today's tech world[,] a handwritten one), the creative genius of the specific people I have selected, and the immense impact that World War II had on people's lives,” Ms. Miller told Canyon News.

“Letters Through The Ages” represents a consolidation of the dramatist's other works, and though the performance runs at a shorter 30 minutes compared to the others' 45 minutes, it maintains the writer's keen sense of consideration and dedication. Ms. Miller acknowledges that the portrayal isn't as widely-requested as her others, yet she remains “every bit as proud of it.”

The former Communications Manager retired in 2007, and for the past five years, she has researched, written, and performed one-woman shows on women of historical importance. Her first, “Anne Morrow Lindbergh: A Gentle Woman of Quiet Strength,” has her assume the role of American aviator Charles Lindbergh's wife, who according to the writer has “always [been] in his shadows.” The year 2010 saw the arrival of “Margaret Mitchell: The Voice Behind Scarlett O'Hara,” a personification of the challenges and triumphs the “Gone With the Wind” writer encountered. And in February 2012, Ms. Miller debuted a portrayal on Anne Frank entitled “Anne Frank: Hiding and Writing.”

She has also written on the 2010 earthquake in Haiti through the experiences of a young Haitian woman, Carol Simon, as well as on First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.

“I very much enjoy reading volumes of diaries and letters...history comes alive when viewed within the context of specific people's personal lives. I started going through various compilations of diaries and letters, and an idea emerged: I could pick a specific period in time, look for letters and diary entries written on the same days, and discover what different people were experiencing...who they were writing to...where they were and why... during the same moments in history,” mused the dramatist.

The Woodland Hills Country Club is located at 21150 Dumetz Road. The performance will begin at noon. Patrons should expect a $20 entrance fee.
