Woodland Hills

Residents Arrested for Storage Unit Burglaries
Posted by Damian Kelly on Jun 8, 2012 - 1:28:56 PM

WOODLAND HILLS—A lengthy investigation into numerous thefts from locked storage units in Calabasas has resulted in the arrests of two Woodland Hills residents, according to a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department news release.

Suspects Richard Traber and his girlfriend Colette Kurtz were arrested on Tuesday, May 15 after Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station detectives discovered several pieces of known stolen property at Traber’s residence while following up on a tip from a citizen who had indicated Traber had allegedly committed the thefts.

Traber, who is currently on parole, was charged with burglary and violation of parole and is facing possible additional charges upon identification of additional items and further possible prosecution.  Kurtz was charged with receiving known stolen property but was later released on a bond.  The two suspects are thought to be responsible for numerous thefts that took place between the months of March and April 2012 at
Calabasas Public Storage facility, located at 23811 Ventura Blvd.

Two truckloads of suspected stolen property were recovered from Traber’s residence by detectives.  Some of the recovered items included china cabinets and hutches, silverware, paintings and a large quantity of boxes containing personal care items.  The property is thought to belong to residents in the surrounding communities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas and Thousand Oaks.

Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance to locate the legal owners of the recovered items.  A public viewing of the property is scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 9 from 10am to 2pm in the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station parking lot at 27050 Agoura Road in Calabasas.

Anyone who believes they were a victim from a storage unit, vehicle, or residential burglary should attend the viewing.  To properly confirm ownership of recovered property, victims will need to provide proper identifying information such as crime reports, photos, receipts and/or serial numbers.

Police say there is too much property for them to check through so it is necessary that possible victims come by and view the items for themselves.

For questions or information, please contact Detective Ginni Alvarez at Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at (818) 878-5584. Police urge the public to work together to prevent or report crime by contacting their local Sheriff’s station. Those who wish to remain Anonymous may call “LA Crime Stoppers” by dialing (800) 222-8477, texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org
