Located at 6201 Winnetka Ave., Pierce College’s Great Hall will have the hour-long debate, which will begin at 4 p.m.  The debate will conclude the second part of a two-part series called “Day of Politics” at the college.

Before the debate begins, a discussion of Propositions 30, 32, 34 and 38 will take place.

Beginning at 11:15 a.m., Dr. James McKeever, Professor of Sociology and Dr. Pamela Brown, Professor of Economics, both of Pierce College, will talk about Proposition 30, a temporary tax to fund education.  After that, Proposition 38, the tax to fund education and childhood programs, will be discussed with Brown also taking part.  A representative from YES on 38 will also be present.

Then at 1 p.m., McKeever and Brown will discuss Proposition 32, a measure regarding political contributions to candidates by payroll deduction.  This will be followed by History Professor Brian Walsh and former Republican Congressional candidate Susan Shelley discussing Proposition 34, the death penalty measure.

The purpose of “Day of Politics” is to “thoughtfully engage and inspire students and the greater community,” according to Pierce College’s website.

Sponsors of the event are Pierce College’s Departments of Political Science, Economics, Criminal Justice and Law and Chicano Studies.
