WEST HOLLYWOOD—The autopsy for former model Iana Kasian, 30, was released on September 20, and revealed that the model’s blood was drained, her head scalped and portions of her face were torn off. Kasian was murdered in May 2016 by her ex-boyfriend. Her body was discovered in her West Hollywood apartment located on the 8500 block of Holloway Drive by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Kasian moved from Ukraine to Los Angeles in 2014 where she met and began dating Blake Leibel, 36, a graphic novelist and screenwriter. Leibel was charged with her murder and could face the death penalty if convicted. He has pleaded not guilty to the crime. He was arrested a week before Kasian’s murder on charges of felony rape, but he was out on bail at the time of her murder. Kasian was not identified as the rape victim in that case.

The autopsy reports that the model died from severe blunt force trauma to her skull. Coroners suspect Kasian suffered from potential human bite marks on her jaw. Her cause of death was as exsanguination (draining of blood) and head trauma.

Los Angeles County Coroner Dr. James Ribe indicated noted that the victim had lived for at least 8 hours after receiving the scalp injury and the bruise to the collarbone.

“I have never seen this before. And I doubt if hardly any forensic pathologists in this country or abroad have even seen this outside of, perhaps, wartime,” said Ribe.

Authorities discovered her body lying next to the couple’s two-month-old daughter, Diana, was not injured during the incident. The child was placed in the care of Kasian’s mother.

A graphic novel by Leibel, “Syndrome” opens with flashbacks of a serial killer murdering victims by slashing their throats and draining them of blood. Leibel is the son of Canadian real estate and Olympic sailor, Lorne Leibel.
