BEVERLY HILLS—A Beverly Hills High School student was amongst the 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners announced on Wednesday, May 10. The winners of the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program were chosen from a batch of more than 15 thousand finalists.

Jordan A. Grode, a student from Beverly Hills High, was selected as the winner from Beverly Hills. Grode plans to pursue a career in law.

The recipients of the scholarship were selected on the judgment of having the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Those in the committee include officers of college admissions and high school counselors.

Over 300 students throughout the entire state of California were chosen. Depending on each state’s percentage of graduating high school seniors, the number of winners are chosen proportionally.

There were six semi-finalists from Beverly Hills High School chosen back in September that included: Jordan A. Grode, Yong K. Kim, Pin-Chian Lee, Samuel H. Schwartz, Justin R. Wu and Yunchao Zhang.

They were among the 16,000 chosen based on their scores on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
