MALIBU—On Monday, June 22, a car crashed on Malibu Canyon Road, falling over the side of a hill, causing a small brush fire and killing the driver.

The crash was reported around 11:20 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Officials closed down the road between the Pacific Coast Highway and Piuma Road, while firefighters worked to control the two acres of flames.

According to the Malibu Fire Department, the fire was contained around 1:30 p.m. yesterday but the roads remained closed for the rest of the day.

The identity of the driver, whose name has not yet been released to the public, is described as a 53-year-old man from Calabasas. He was driving a 2013 Tesla. Officials are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.
