HOLLYWOOD HILLS—The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a reported break-in last week and arrived at the scene to find a Canadian actor beaten death in his friend’s Hollywood Hills home.

The LAPD received a tip of a suspected burglary in progress at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Friday, September 23 on the 6700 block of Milner Road, where they found Richard Hong—a Canadian TV star—dead.

Hong, 41, died from head trauma, according to the Los Angeles coroner; he was watching the home for a friend and fellow Canadian TV personality, George Stroumboulopoulos, 44, while he was in New York.

“The victim is a dear friend of mine, who was staying at my place while I was away,” Stroumboulopoulos said in a statement. “I am heartbroken.”

Stroumboulopoulos told reporters Friday afternoon that he was in New York when the break-in occurred, but was flying back to Los Angeles to grieve with friends.

“There’s so much to say but I’m at a loss for words so just love your people and I will have more to say when we know more about what happened,” he added.

Witnesses told detectives the assailant ran west on Milner, then south on Las Palmas Avenue, according to police.

Witnesses described the suspect as a man, approximately 5 feet and 8 inches tall, with short black hair and a black jacket. The suspect is still at large. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
