MALIBU—Rick Mullen, Skylar Peak and Jefferson “Zuma Jay” Wagner won seats for the Malibu City Council on Tuesday, November 8.

The Los Angeles County Clerk’s Office noted the top three candidates will fill three open seats after council members John Sibert and Joan House termed out. The candidates garnered 67 percent of the votes.

Mullen was favored the most by Malibu voters out of the six candidates. He earned 2,678 votes (24 percent), while Wagner, former mayor, came in second with 2,556 votes (23 percent). Skylar Peak, who was vying to retain his seat on the City Council, accumulated 2,266 votes (20 percent).

Lauren Sills, Jennifer deNicola and Carl Randall respectively received 1,544 votes (14 percent), 1,138 votes (10 percent) and 1,068 votes (9 percent).

Malibu Surfside News reported that Mullen, Wagner and Peak took an early lead in vote-by-mail ballots, with Mullen earning 831 votes (24 percent), Wagner 799 votes (23 percent) and Peak 648 votes (19 percent).

Results are compiled from the Los Angeles County Clerk’s website, but are considered unofficial.

Vote-by-mail ballots received on Election Day, write-in ballots, damaged ballots and provisional ballots can take up to 30 days to process.
