MALIBU—A collision into a power pole on Saturday, August 16, by an impaired driver caused major traffic delays. The crash occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Sherriff’s Department.

Portions of Malibu Canyon Road were closed for about 12 hours, when the power pole collapsed blocking lanes on the road. The southbound lanes at Malibu Canyon and Mulholland Drive were closed, as were the northbound lanes at Malibu Canyon and Seaver Drive.

 

Signals were out along Pacific Coast Highway at Crosscreek, Webb Way and the Malibu Pier.

The accident resulted in a power outage for over 3,000 homes east of Malibu Canyon Road and north of Pacific Coast Highway. Power was restored to the region by late evening. According to reports, the condition of the driver is not known.
