BEVERLY HILLS—The Beverly Hills City Council will resume developing recommendations for the Santa Monica Boulevard Reconstruction Project on December 10. The actual reconstruction will take place in spring 2015, and involves upgrading the drainage system, repaving the road, and putting other improvements in place along the entirety of North Santa Monica Boulevard; a major street that runs four lanes wide throughout the city.
Since the 1930s, Santa Monica Boulevard has been known as Route 66, the Beverly Hills Freeway and State Route 2, and is currently used as a gateway to West Hollywood, Hollywood, West Los Angeles and Santa Monica, as well as an entrance to the city from the 405 freeway. The northern part of this vital street is also known as “Big” Santa Monica Boulevard and is under the city’s control. It runs through landmarks including the historically significantBeverly Gardens and runs parallel to South, or “Little,” Santa Monica Boulevard.
In order to facilitate the enhancement process, the City Council has appointed the Santa Monica Boulevard Blue Ribbon Committee, whose job is to make recommendations that could be added to the central project of repairing the road, including the construction of bicycle lanes and medians.
Discussions of the project for the public will take place in three segments. The first took place on November 7, where the purpose was to review committee goals and design concepts. The second meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 10, where design plans will be re-evaluated and polished. The third meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 8, where actual recommendations will be developed.
All meetings will take place in the Community Meeting Room, located on the second floor of the Beverly Hills Library at 444 North Rexford Drive.
