SANTA MONICA—Heal the Bay, a non-profit organization that focuses on advocating for a healthy ocean and protecting the Santa Monica Bay, will host Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 15.

Heal the Bay is based in Santa Monica and was founded in 1985. They concentrate mainly on thriving oceans, healthy watersheds, and smart water. This year’s Coastal Cleanup Day will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Volunteers will participate in removing trash from the coast and waterways, and raise awareness about pollution in the oceans. In 2017, 800,000 pounds of trash was removed during the three-hour event.

The Coastal Cleanup has over 60 locations for volunteers to participate in Los Angeles County. Members of the community can participate in this year’s event via social media, through partnerships, sponsorships, donations, waivers and fundraising. Throughout the years, volunteers have accumulated 250 million pounds of trash since the event started in 1986.

Coastal Cleanup Day takes place on the 3rd Saturday in September. To obtain more information about the International Coastal Cleanup and to participate in an event in your region visit suituptocleanup.org.
