SHERMAN OAKS—Los Angeles City Councilmember David E. Ryu, representing District 4, is holding a drive to collect blankets, towels, and other necessities for local shelter animals this holiday season.

“This holiday season help shelter animals in Los Angeles by donating your old (OR new) blankets and towels to Councilmember David E. Ryu’s Animal Shelter Drive! Please join us in spreading the holiday cheer to ‘mans best friend’!” states a flyer for the drive, featured on the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce Twitter account.

Other than used or new blankets and towels to keep the animals warm, the shelters are in need  of many other items for daily use.

Items can be dropped off at the Sherman Oaks District Office, 13907 Ventura Blvd. Suite 104, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423.

Below is a list of the items that are most needed:

-Linens – towels, blankets, and sheets

-Newspapers

-Stainless steel bowls of various sizes

-Ceramic crocks

-Plastic or stainless steel litter pans of various sizes

-Dog and cat treats (hard and/or soft)

-Dog and cat toys

-Guinea pig, hamster, gerbil food and cages

-Hay (timothy or oat)

-Cat scratching posts

-Baby wipes

-Potty-training pads

-Heating pads

-Dog and cat carriers

-Baby bottles (newborn) and kitten bottles

-Pacifiers

-Fabric softener sheets

-Dog and cat grooming supplies; shampoo, conditioner, brushes, clippers
