CHICAGO—The Los Angeles Dodgers lost Game 6 of the National League Championship Series to the Chicago Cubs 5-0, eliminating them from the playoffs on Saturday, October 22.

Los Angeles hoped star pitcher Clayton Kershaw could help them stave off elimination for the second straight series, giving him the Game 6 start on an extra day of rest. Unfortunately, for Dodgers fans Kershaw was unable to overcome Chicago’s heavy hitting, giving up five runs in five innings. The three-time Cy Young Award winner addressed the media following the loss.

“It’s tough to swallow tonight, obviously. I’d much rather be in this situation and fail than not be in this situation at all. As much as this does hurt, as much as I would have liked to have won tonight, I’m really thankful that I’ve gotten to be on a team that’s been in the postseason four years in a row.”

The Cubs were led by early run-ins from Dexter Fowler, Kris Bryant and Addison Russell, followed by two home-runs in the fourth and fifth inning from Willson Contreras and Anthony Rizzo. The Cubs were favorites to reach the World Series, winning a league best 103 games this season. This is Chicago’s first pennant win since 1945, and they hope to win the World Series for the first time since 1908.

The Chicago Cubs will face the Cleveland Indians in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday, October 25.
