SANTA MONICA—On Tuesday, July 24, Daniel Roy Davis, 26, pleaded not guilty in court to the murder of Justin Patrick Lee. Lee, 41, who was homeless, was found on July 6 at 6:44 a.m. on a bench on the grounds of Providence St. John’s Health Center located at 2121 Santa Monica Boulevard.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, Lee sustained fatal stab wounds. A preliminary investigation revealed that Lee suffered blunt force injuries to his upper torso and the neck.

Davis was arrested by officers from the SMPD, who were searching the area when they spotted David and he was taken into custody after evidence was gathered linking Davis to Lee’s murder.

“We were deeply saddened to learn a body was discovered on the Providence Saint John’s Health Center campus,” hospital spokesperson Patricia Aidem said in a statement. “We are working with Santa Monica Police [Department], and are asking our employees and the public to report to the police anything noteworthy they may have observed in the area.”

Davis remains jailed in lieu of $2 million bail. He’s due back at the Airport Branch Courthouse in Los Angeles on August 28.
