SANTA MONICA—On Tuesday, December 22, around 2 p.m., a 10 foot, 1,200 pound Neonate Gray Whale was washed ashore in Santa Monica, which was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Fire Department Lifeguard Division.

The baby whale was found on Santa Monica State Beach located at 1200 Ocean Walk Front near Lifeguard Tower 12.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department Lifeguard Division released a statement via Twitter at around 3:20 p.m., indicating that Santa Monica City maintenance removed the whale from the water line.

The Lifeguard Division further noted that the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHMLA) arrived on the scene to take samples in order to determine the cause of death for the whale.
