Decomposing Corpse Found By Hikers

HOLLYWOOD HILLS—The discovery of a decomposing body in the Hollywood Hills has launched a police investigation into the circumstances of an unidentified person’s death.

The corpse was found by two brothers who were hiking with their dog through the Hollywood Hills on March 31 at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Daniel Dayton and his younger brother were hiking through the Hollywood Hills when they made the gruesome discovery of a decomposing corpse.

Daniel Dayton, 21, told KTLA news that he happened upon the body after discovering a jacket lying adjacent to a creek bed.

Walking up the creek, about 10 feet from where he discovered the jacket, Dayton found what initially appeared to be an animal carcass. Further investigation revealed a human leg covered by the withered remains of the person’s pants.

Following the discovery, Dayton and his brother rushed to their nearby home to alert authorities of the corpse, prompting a Los Angeles Fire and Police department response to the 3300 Block of Bonnie Hill Drive.

The gender and identity of the deceased has not yet been made public. Law enforcement officials estimated the corpse has been decomposing for nearly a year. An exact cause and motive for the person’s death has not yet been disclosed to the public.
