LOS ANGELES—This four game series between two NL West rivals could not have been more even. After trading a couple of 2-1 wins in the first two games, the Giants beat the Dodgers in the 10th inning Wednesday night and on Thursday, April 27, the Dodgers returned the favor, scoring four runs in the 10th to give them a 5-1 victory against their hated enemies.

Julio Urias, 20, made his 2017 season debut with the Dodgers after being called up from the minors. He was 5-2 last year with the Dodgers, and he is continuing to show promise. He delivered a solid performance, allowing only one run in five and two-thirds innings while striking out four batters. Manager Dave Roberts was pleased with the young pitcher.

“It was a very good start by Julio, and that was his opening day,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “To get Julio back in the rotation is a good thing for us. To have this young kid with such composure is great.”

Corey Seager offered run support for Urias early on, homering in the first inning, his second straight game with a home run, which put the Dodgers up 1-0. The Giants took a while to respond, not scoring until a sixth inning single by Christian Arroyo scored Brandon Belt tied the game at 1-1. Their offense was held in check the rest of the game as they were unable to score afterwards. Giants manager Bruce Bochy expressed his discontent with his teams lack of scoring.

“We have to get this offense going,” said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. “It’s a better offense than what we’re showing. We need to find a way to put a few runs on the board.”

It may have taken them 10 innings, but unlike the Bochy’s team, the Dodgers were able to put up multiple runs on the board. After going eight straight innings without scoring the boys in blue delivered an exciting four run 10th inning that earned them the win. Andrew Toles single scored pinch runner Ross Stripling breaking the 1-1 tie.

Kike Hernandez added another run when his sac fly sent Chase Utley home. Justin Turner extended his hit streak to 13 games and his single in the 10th gave the Dodgers another cushion run with the score at 4-1. Chris Taylor got in on the party when he was walked with the bases loaded. Toles came home and the Dodgers went up 5-1 and took the score into the books, recording the win after Kenley Jansen came on. He struck out the side and recorded his first save of the season while helping LA evening the four game series against their Bay Area rivals.

The Giants, who recorded their 500th straight sellout game at AT&T Park, will look to continue that streak as they open a three game home stand against another Southern California rival, the San Diego Padres. Meanwhile, the Dodgers will open a six game home stand as Kenta Maeda takes the mound on Friday, still looking to record his first win in three years as he takes on the Philadelphia Phillies.
