HOLLYWOOD HILLS —Years after the death of comedic icon and actor Bob Hope. His beautiful widow is still going strong at the age of 101. In May of 2009 Dolores Hope celebrated her 100th birthday in a big way. This year, on May 27, Mrs. Hope celebrated with a much smaller affair. Mrs. Hope tells Canyon News, “I’m still recovering from my 100th birthday bash, so I’m going to keep this year’s celebration much quieter.”
Mrs. Hope was born in New York City on May 27, 1909. She married Bob Hope on February 19, 1934, and was with him until he died on July 27, 2003. They adopted four children and the Hopes lived a very quiet life in the San Fernando Valley. Always a strong advocate for women and children, Mrs. Hope also deserves credit for her husband’s amazing success as a Hollywood actor and she never complained when he traveled throughout the world supporting our troops with his U.S.O. tours.
One of her greatest joys is her own Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which is at 7021 Hollywood Blvd. She is also known for a beautiful singing voice and for always looking out for others. Phyllis Diller tells Canyon News, “She’s a wonderful great lady. And Bob was a precious man, he never said a bad word about anyone, ever! That’s a positive man.”
Mrs. Hope is preparing for June festivities. The Bob Hope Airport will celebrate its 80th Anniversary on June 2, and on June 10, in Washington D.C. the Library of Congress will reopen the Bob Hope Gallery of American Entertainment with the new exhibit, “Hope For America: Entertainers, Politics, and Pop Culture.”
Dolores Hope celebrated her 101 birthday on May 27. It was a quiet occasion with family and a few close friends.
