MALIBUA head-on crash in Malibu left one driver in critical condition and a portion of Pacific Coast Highway closed for nearly eight hours on Wednesday, June 10.

Late Wednesday night, a Honda Civic traveling eastbound moved into the westbound land and collided with oncoming traffic. It was not immediately clear what caused the driver of the Civic to go into the opposite lanes. The driver of the Civic was left him pinned in his vehicle for almost an hour.

Rescue workers moved to free the driver from the wreckage, but struggled due to the extensive damage done to the car.

After being rescued from the wreck, both the driver of the Civic and the driver of the unidentified vehicle were rushed to the hospital. The driver of the unidentified vehicle was treated for injuries and released. The driver of the Civic was rushed into surgery and remains in critical condition. The names of the drivers have not yet been released. PCH reopened Thursday morning for rush hour traffic.
