HOLLYWOOD—A New Jersey woman pleaded no contest on Monday, October 22 to hacking an email account belonging to Theresa Mingus, an associate of actress Selena Gomez.

According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, Susan Atrach, 22, of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey pleaded to one felony count each of identity theft and network intrusion in a negotiated plea agreement.

The defendant accessed the email account of Mingus between August 2015 and February 2016. Atrach took images from the account that she posted online and sent to other individuals.

Atrach was immediately sentenced to five years probation and 160 hours of community service. The plea agreement terms requires that Atrach demonstrate that she is in school or has a job during this time period.

Selena Gomez, 26, is a singer, actress, and producer. Gomez began as a child actor on the TV series “Barney & Friends” and later appeared on the Disney Channel as Alex Russo on “Wizards of Waverly Place” where she gained significant recognition. She transitioned into singing, first with a band and then to a solo career. Gomez is the executive producer for Netflix series “Thirteen Reasons Why.”

In 2011, Gomez, who was 19 at the time, was granted a three-year restraining order against Thomas Brodnicki, 46, who told his therapist that he wanted to kill Gomez. As well as the death threat, Brodnicki traveled all the way from Illinois to try and meet the actress.

The singer was recently hospitalized twice in recent weeks as she sought treatment after an “emotional breakdown” related to issues with recent low white blood cell count related which could be connected to her recent kidney transplant.
