HOLLYWOOD—Asaf Goldstien is an excellent actor who has done incredible work in independent films and on stage. The international star has appeared at many theaters in his homeland of Israel, but made his first official stage debut on the London stage, when a world famous stage director saw him in a play in Tel Aviv as a teenager. Just hot off his latest film “Intercom,” the handsome star is preparing to return to a role he’s been dying to play. Asaf tells Canyon News who his favorite directors are, his favorite playwright and most importantly, since he will be unable to return to Hollywood for the upcoming Golden Globe® and Academy Awards®, he shares with us, who he’s rooting for to take home the gold.

Q-What is the name of your new play and will when it open?

A-“The play is called ‘A Wonderful Husband’ and it’s an adaptation of the famous play ‘An Ideal Husband’ by the greatest writer Oscar Wilde, whose work I adore. It’s a comedy. The world premiere of this play will debut in Cameri Theatre in Tel Aviv on March the 24.”

Q-What is the character’s name and tell us about him?

A-“I will be playing Tom. He’s a boss driver/bodyguard/assistant and, now we all know that he’s an assistant to famous people, and we all know assistants are the most important people to famous and successful people, Tommy. In this play, Tom is asked to protect one of his famous bosses, by blackmailing an old friend who is trying to blackmail Tom’s boss. He is asked to videotape him and a woman (named Tina) in bed in order to create a scandal. We all know that comedies are complicated, and this one is funny and truly out there! You know Oscar Wilde’s works.”

Q- Who wrote and who is directing this version of Wilde’s play?

A-“The writer of this play is world renowned Joshua Sobol. He’s famous for his plays that have run all over the world, including the National Theatre in London. There his play titled ”˜Ghetto’ is currently running and is also running at the Cameri Theatre as well. The director of this play is Aya Kaplan, a new young director. She is very enthusiastic, and she is working out great.”

Q-Are you working well as you always do, with your costars this time around?

A-“I am working with some great actors this time around, and it’s thrilling! Some of them are very well known and it’s wonderful because I learn from them. In this profession you don’t stop learning. It doesn’t matter how old are you, you learn all the time.”

Q-I know you probably won’t make it back to Hollywood in time for this year’s Oscars. What film are you rooting for to win?

A-“The film that I mostly liked in 2010 is ”˜The Social Network.’ I thought the guy who played Mark Zuckerberg [Jesse Eisenberg] was brilliant! And the film is definitely my favorite. You know how much I love Facebook, Tommy.”

Q-Who have been your favorite film directors to work with over the years, Asaf?

A-“Tommy, I have worked with some great directors here in Israel, one of them is Amir Michalovicth. He’s a young director whom I am sure we will all be hearing about in the future. I worked with him on a film-short called ”˜Intercom,’ which you loved Tommy. He’s really a cool director and very skilled.”
