HOLLYWOOD—Religion ruled the box-office this weekend, as “Exodus: Gods and Kings” took the #1 spot earning just over $24 million. The biblical epic directed by Ridley Scott was not expected to hold off the first installment of the “Mockingjay” conclusion, which is nearing the $300 million mark at the domestic box-office.

“Mockingjay” nabbed the #2 spot with around $13 million. Landing in the #3 spot was the animated flick “Penguins of Madagascar” with another $7.3 million to its total. The Chris Rock comedy “Top Five” debuted in the #4 spot with $7.2 million.

Rounding out the top five was the animated hit, “Big Hero 6” with around $6 million.  This weekend will prove to be an interesting battle at the box-office as “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” “Annie” and “Night of the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” all do battle with audiences.
