STUDIO CITY—On June 23, Universal Studios Hollywood premiered its newest attraction, titled Fast and Furious: Supercharged. It is described as a “ride along with the all-star cast from the hit movies” that takes you “on an exhilarating high-speed chase that exceeds 120 miles per hour.” The attraction will serve as the finale of the Studio Tour, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Supercharged features state-of-the-art special effects that includes “3D-HD imagery projected onto the world’s most expansive 360-degree screens.” It is similar in nature to the existing King Kong: 360-3D attraction, also part of the Studio Tour.

The premiere was attended by several of the franchise’s cast members including lead Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Jason Statham.

Diesel dedicated the ride to the late “Fast and Furious” star Paul Walker, who was killed in a car crash in Valencia, CA in November 2013.

The cast was also accompanied by park CEO Steve Burke, the ride’s executive producer Chick Russell, and Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative for Universal Parks and Resorts, who said of the ride in an interview: “It’s got everything that we want – it’s exciting, it’s got heart, it’s got great character. And it’s just, you know, the perfect piece to bring to the Studio Tour.”

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti attended as well and expressed his hope to see tourism in both the park and the city in general be boosted in the coming years.

Monday, June 22 marked 14 years since the release of the original film, “The Fast and the Furious.” The series is ongoing as plans for an eighth installment, “Fast & Furious 8” has already been announced. The film has a projected release date of April 14, 2017.
