MALIBU—In spite of California’s well-documented drought, on Monday, December 1, mud and debris slides forced a closure of Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County.

PCH was closed for a nine-mile stretch between Yerba Buena and Las Posas roads as a result of the storm.

The mud was three feet deep in certain areas, stranding approximately a dozen vehicles. According to reports, the closure could last until the heavy rain subsides.

The affected area is vulnerable to mudslides, possessing little vegetation due to wild fires in May 2013.

Until PCH re-opens, the Ventura (101) Freeway and Canyon roads are recommended as alternate routes.
