HOLLYWOOD—The 43rd Daytime Emmy nominations were unveiled on the CBS gabfest “The Talk” on Tuesday, March 31. Leading the pack of all nominees was the daytime series “General Hospital” with a total of 28 nominations including Outstanding Drama Series. Followed close behind was “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” with 10 nominations.

The ABC soap will compete against “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Days of Our Lives” and “The Young and the Restless.” Each of the four nominees had ups and downs this year, so it’s anyone’s trophy to win at this point.

Vying for the prize in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Daytime series are Alison Sweeney “Days of Our Lives,” Peggy McCay “Days of Our Lives,” Gina Tognoni “The Young and the Restless,” Maura West “General Hospital” and Laura Wright “General Hospital.” Big news for Sweeney who nabbed her first nomination in 21 years as Sami Brady on the NBC soap! Plenty of firepower in this tough race, and Sweeney has a bit of an edge in my opinion, but all the ladies here are very deserving of this award.

In the Outstanding Lead Actor race the nominees are Anthony Geary “General Hospital,” Christian J. LeBlanc “The Young and the Restless,” Billy Miller “The Young and the Restless” and Jason Thompson “General Hospital.” Competing in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category are Linsey Godfrey “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Amelia Heinle “The Young and the Restless,” Elizabeth Hendrickson “The Young and the Restless,” Finola Hughes “General Hospital” and Lisa LoCicero “General Hospital.”

In the Outstanding Supporting Actor race are Scott Clifton “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Chad Duell “General Hospital,” Kristoff St. John “The Young and the Restless” and Jacob Young “The Bold and the Beautiful.”  Interesting category with plenty of surprises to say the least, there will be tough competition to pick a winner here.

Kristoff St. John is nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actor race for his work on "The Young and the Restless."

In the Outstanding Younger Lead Actress race the contenders are Kristen Alderson “General Hospital,” Camila Banus “Days of Our Lives,” Hunter King “The Young and the Restless” and Haley Pullos “General Hospital.”   For the Outstanding Younger Lead Actor race the nominees are Bryan Craig “General Hospital,” Max Ehrich “The Young and the Restless,” Tequan Richmond “General Hospital” and Freddie Smith “General Hospital.”

There were some surprises in the Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show and Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host, as The Wendy Williams Show picked up nominations in both categories. It’s funny as Williams recently spoke about her chances of winning a Daytime Emmy would never happen. I’ll be the first to admit the hostess has a very good chance of a win this year. Fingers crossed!

The ceremony will air live on the Pop network on Sunday, April 26 at 8 p.m. The festivities will be hosted by supermodel and former talk show host Tyra Banks.
