BEL AIR—Girard Damian Saenz, 58, who is accused of having a cache of assault weapons at his Bel Air home has been charged with 64 felony counts, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced on Monday, July 15.

Saenz is facing 23 counts of possession of an assault weapon, 17 counts of transfer of handgun with no licensed firearms dealer. He is also charged with 15 counts of unlawful assault weapon 50 BMG rifle activity, 7 counts of possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, and 2 counts of possession of a destructive device.

Saenz pleaded not guilty during a hearing at Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch.

The alleged crimes happened between January 2016 and May 2019, a charging document shows. Saenz was originally arrested early May following a raid on the home.

“This is a big stash, beyond comprehension that somebody can have so many weapons in a residence like this, in a neighborhood like this,” said Lt. Ramirez in May 2019 when the defendant was first arrested.

“Over 1,000 firearms & one person arrested for 30600(a) PC, in one of the largest recoveries in LAPD history”, the LAPD posted on their Facebook page.

Saenz’ bail was set at $100,000. If found guilty he faces a maximum of 48 years and 8 months in state prison.
