SANTA MONICA—Today not only marks the start of Santa Monica’s Car Free Friday Initiative, but also gives residents an opportunity to grab coffee with local cops. The Santa Monica Police Department is participating in National Coffee with a Cop Day once again this year.

Originally launched by the Hawthorne Police Department in 2011, National Coffee with a Cop Day aims to promote a neutral environment for residents and officers of the community to interact with one another over a cup of coffee.

The event creates a space where cops and locals may interact and hold open conversations outside of the situations which brings officers and residents together. Police officers and staff from the SMPD’s Community Affairs Unit will be at the following six locations and times throughout Santa Monica on Friday, October 7.

-La Monarca Bakery – 1300 Wilshire Blvd, from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

-Café Bolivar – 1741 Ocean Park Blvd, from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

-Groundwork-1601 Montana Avenue from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
