HOLLYWOOD—There were new movies at the multiplex this weekend, but they were no competition for the strength of the sequel, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” The superheroes maintained their spot at the top of the box-office adding $63 million to its tally. In just 10 days, the superhero flick has amounted over $250 million at the domestic box-office. Impressive numbers indeed people.

Nabbing second place was the comedy “Snatched” starring Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer with only $17.5 million. Not as impressive as many expected considering Schumer’s last comedy “Trainwreck” opened with nearly double that number. The other new release of the weekend, “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” bombed big-time at theaters with a dismal $14.7 million. Not good people, especially for a flick that cost nearly $175 million to produce. That’s a major loss for Warner Bros. pictures.

Still earning bucks at the multiplex was “The Fate of the Furious” which added another $5.3 million. After about a month in theaters, the action-flick has amounted only $215 million domestically. Why do those numbers seem so small to me for a movie that is killing the market globally? Rounding out the top five was the animated flick “The Boss Baby” with $4.6 million.

Get ready for plenty of scares and thrills galore as the sixth installment in the “Alien” franchise, “Alien: Covenant” arrives this weekend. Could the sci-fi flick helmed by original “Alien” director Ridley Scott dethrone “Guardians?” I sure think so, especially with all the buzz I’m hearing about this movie!
