SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate missing person,  Soriebia Yala Kanu, who has also gone by the name Jason Kanu.  Kanu is described as a Black male, 26, short black hair, brown eyes and standing 6 feet and 2 inches tall, weighing about 150-175 pounds.

His current mailing address is 2001 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90404. Kanu frequently visits the West Hollywood Library located at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. on a daily basis and multiple law enforcement contacts throughout the Hollywood region.

Canyon News spoke with Sgt. Rudy Camarena from the SMPD via email about the case. He indicated the last time Soriebia spoke to a friend was on September 22, 2013 via Skype.

The victim’s sister and mother reported Kanu missing on August 26, 2014, as they had not heard from him since December 2012. They are unaware of his current whereabouts and have concerns about possible depression he may be facing. Sgt. Camarena indicated that the victim’s mother came to Californiato visit her daughter (Soriebia’s sister) and decided to look for him while in town. Authorities are not suspecting any foul play in the case.

“Soriebia was last contacted on 7-24-14 by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s on N. Spring Street in Los Angeles.  Prior to that, Soriebia was contacted on 4-19-14 by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s on Lankershim Blvd in North Hollywood,” said Sgt. Camarena.

Police are asking anyone who spots Kanu to contact the nearest police department so that his family can be contacted. Anyone with information regarding Kanu’s whereabouts is asked to call the Santa Monica Police Department, Criminal Investigations Division, Robbery/Homicide Unit at (310) 458-8451.
