BEVERLY HILLS—Actress Hilary Duff is apologizing for her choice of a couple’s costume worn on Friday, October 28 after receiving backlash from social media.

Duff and her new boyfriend Jason Walsh showed up to the annual Casamigos Tequila Halloween Party in Beverly Hills dressed as a Pilgrim and Native American. Walsh, donned in a headdress and Duff in a short black outfit.

After their photo was posted on JustJared’s Twitter account, many responded by calling the couple “racist” and “out of touch.”

Duff went to Twitter to apologize to her fans. “I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costime. It was not properly thought through and I am truly, from the bottom of my (heart) sorry,” wrote Duff.

Walsh also issued an apology on his Instagram account.

“I mean no disrespect. I only have admiration for the indigenous people of America. In hindsight I would have not made that decision. I apologize to anyone I may have offended,” wrote Walsh.

Duff is known as a star from the Disney channel who appeared on the series “Lizzie McGuire,” which premiered in 2001. She has a recurring role on the comedy series “Younger” alongside actress Sutton Foster and actor Nico Tortorella.
