HOLLYWOOD—Friends, never in a million years did I think I would find myself saying that a hip-hop, rap musical was wonderful… Not only is it wonderful, it is fan-freakin’-tastic!

The energy exuded on the stage at the Pantages is enough of a B-12 shot for everyone in the audience. It is conceived by, music by and stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, who has won every theater award possible. He clearly demonstrateshe is a theatrical genius.

The cast of vibrant young artists is outstanding and they perform gymnastic miracles choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler (his dance steps are as difficult as his name).

Anna Louizos’s set pulls you in to New York’s Washington the Heights, a neighborhood that is familiar and comfortable even though it’s a “barrio.” The sound was brilliant in spite of heavy accents, and the lighting took us from highs to lows in the mood of the piece.

There are too many great features in this show to detail—go see for yourselves.

“In The Heights” only plays until July 25, so contact the Pantages to see this first time in L.A. presentation of a Tony winner.
