BRENTWOOD—Stage, film and television star Jack Betts is making an appearance next month in Tinseltown’s Spaghetti Western Festival. Recently the prolific actor appeared on stage in a one-man show about the late John Barrymore. Perhaps one of the world’s best actors in history, Barrymore’s turbulent personal life often overshadowed his distinguished professional career. Betts however makes no such mistakes. He is well known and beloved for his distinguished career and for being one of the most amiable actors in the industry.
From soap opera work on “General Hospital,” “Guiding Light,” “The Young and the Restless” “All My Children” and “One Life To Live,” to film work in “Spiderman” “The Bloody Brood” and even the iconic western TV series “Gunsmoke,” Betts who is often credited as Hunt Powers, can be seen in every genre within the entertainment industry.
The Miami born thespian tells Canyon News, “Tommy, I think it’s great that the (Spaghetti Western) is again being appreciated for what it contributed to the legend of the American cowboy. The Italians brought more blood and guts to the western genre, less romance and more action.”
Asked if he felt intimidated to go on the L.A. stage recently to portray the legendary John Barrymore, Betts said, “I have never been intimidated by playing any character on stage. John Barrymore was inspirational, because of his extraordinary talent and his self-deprecating sense of humor.”
Longtime fellow actor Constance Towers tells Canyon News, “I am never surprised by the ability Jack has to get roles. He has a very charismatic personality, he is very magnetic and he’s capable of playing anything.” With a body of work that rivals prolific actors Boris Karloff and John Barrymore, I asked Betts what his next project would be. After the handsome star laughed, he concluded, “What I am looking forward to right now is working on getting my film script ”˜It Goes Like This’ made into a movie. It’s a very powerful story and very timely.”
The First Los Angeles Spaghetti Western Festival will take place Saturday, March 19, at the historic El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood. The all-day event will feature films, live music and special guests, including: Robert Woods, Michael Forest, Brett Halsey, Neil Summers, Dan van Husen, Richard Harrison and Jack Betts, and more are being added to the show each day.
