HOLLYWOOD—Comedy or action: those were the new choices for moviegoers at the box-office this weekend, as “Bad Moms” and “Jason Bourne” did battle with last week’s champ, “Star Trek Beyond.” Well, it was Matt Damon’s return to the “Bourne” franchise that took “Jason Bourne” to the top spot with over $60 million. That is an impressive debut, compared to what the last installment in the franchise, “The Bourne Legacy” earned without Damon’s presence.

I can argue the reunion of Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon is an undeniable force to be reckoned with. Nabbing second place was “Star Trek Beyond” which added another $24 million to its total to push the third installment in the rebooted franchise over the $100 million mark at the domestic box-office. This weekend’s other new release “Bad Moms,” earned $23.4 million during its debut weekend. Not a bad number for a raunchy R-rated flick looking to tantalize female audiences.

The animated flick, “The Secret Life of Pets” added another $18.2 million to its tally to nab fourth place. It’s safe to say by Monday or Tuesday the movie will cross the $300 million mark at the domestic box-office. Rounding out the top five was the horror flick “Lights Out” which earned $10.8 million. Not bad people, not bad at all, people for a horror flick that cost very little to make.

This weekend will be interesting as the highly anticipated “Suicide Squad” finally arrives in theaters. Will it be a bust or a hit? We shall know come Friday!
