UNITED STATES—Presidential hopeful Joe Biden attended a Planned Parenthood’s pro-abortion rally on June 22, where other Democrats running to unseat President Donald Trump in 2020 were also in attendance. Attendees included Biden, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg, and Bernie Sanders.
The crowd was racious and cheered, “Who Decides? We Decide!”
PolitiFact noted that Biden, identified as a Catholic, and “navigated between the doctrines of the Church and the policies of his party on abortion.”
The Catechism of the Catholic Church reads as follows:
“Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person among which is the inviolable right of every human being to life. One must hold as licit procedures carried out on the human embryo which respect the life and integrity of the embryo and do not involve disproportionate risks for it but are directed toward its healing, the improvement of its condition of health, or to individual survival.”
“I do not believe that we have a right to tell other people that women can’t control their body,” said Biden. “It’s a decision between them and their doctor.”
Biden added that the government should not help pay for women to have an abortion, which he previously supported with the Hyde Amendment which stopped federal money from being used on abortions. Biden is now opposing the Hyde Amendment.
