BEVERLY HILLS—Classes for the Junior Gardener at Greystone Mansion & Gardens for kids 6 years to 12 years old will start on January 10 and run until March 20. The eight-week program will be held at the Greystone Demonstration Garden at Greystone Mansion & Gardens: The Doheny Estate, 905 Loma Vista Drive in Beverly Hills.

According to a press release from the City of Beverly Hills, in 2011, the City of Beverly Hills dedicated a region of the Greystone Mansion & Gardens: The Doheny Estate, for a garden that could be utilized for individuals to promote the advantages of locally grown, organic food that is environmentally friendly, sustainable and cost-effective.

The Junior Master Gardener Classes are held through the University of California Cooperative Extension and students receive instruction from certified master gardeners.

The program delivers kids with an outdoor venue where they work with others and learn how to start a vegetable garden, while learning the benefits of having locally grown organic food.

Those attending the classes will get the opportunity to sharpen critical thinking skills and entrepreneurial skills, and build upon their confidence skills. Kids who complete the program will earn the Golden Ray Certificate from Texas A & M University’s Junior Master Gardener Program.
