LOS ANGELES—The Kings’ big names lead the team to a win on Saturday, October 19. Justin Williams’ back to back goals, Drew Doughty’s tiebreaker along with Kyle Clifford and Matt Greene’s empty netter, put the game out of the sticks of the Dallas Stars for a 5-2 beating at the Staples Center.

After a road win in a shootout against Nashville last Thursday, the Kings were ready to begin their short stint at home with the Stars coming to town. Dallas who sits last in the Central Division attempted to pull a win away from the Kings with Tyler Seguin scoring his fourth of the season on a tip in with Jamie Benn’s shot bouncing off the sticks of Rich Peverley and Seguin near the net for the early lead.

Williams put the Kings at even strength with his third goal on a redirect from Jeff Muzzin at the far end. Williams put his team ahead with 28 seconds left in the first, on a backhander behind Anze Kopitar for his second of the night. LA outshot Dallas 13-5 in the first 20 minutes, but Dallas later countered their response in the second.

Rich Peverley added the tying goal from Dallas eight minutes in with a wrister to tie the game at 2-2. Mike Richards attempted to put LA ahead once more with a breakaway that was stopped by Dallas netminder Dan Ellis in the crease. His luck in net would be no match for the Kings veteran line up.

Doughty’s lucky goal to take the lead came on a puck slider that crossed with enough force to give him his second on the year. Clifford battled through twoDallas defenders to snapshot the puck at 13:02 that connected high on the stick side of Ellis for a two goal margin. In a last ditch effort, Stars coach Lindy Ruff pulled Ellis for the sixth man, but with the Kings on fire it only left a big opportunity open. Greene scored on the empty net unassisted recording his second and ending the night on a high mark. The Kings improved their home record to 2-1 with Calgary visiting Staples Center Monday night.
