LOS ANGELES—Kids Of Deaf Adults (KODA) West will host a Family Conference on Sunday, February 9 at the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness (GLAD). The conference will be an all-day event starting at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.

To register for the family event, those that wish to attend can visit http://www.kodawest.org/village/upcoming-events/family-conference and pay the requested $20 per family online fee before February 7. Families that miss the deadline must pay $25 dollars at the door in order to register. Registering for the event allows attendees to enjoy refreshments and lunch that will be provided at the event.

The event consists of four segments: a parent’s symposium, a teen forum for those ages 12 and up, a tween mini-camp for those between 7 to 11 and childcare for kids 6 and younger. The Parent’s Symposium provides deaf parents with the resources on how to approach their child’s lives, from college tips, health care and even safe habits for the internet. KODA West introduces Audrey Frank, PhD. from Washington D.C. as their keynote speaker to lead the discussion.

The Teen Forum will provide teens with the information needed to prepare for college, internet safety, as well as teaching teens bimodal bilingualism. The forum will be led by CODA’s Mo and Mona Mehrpour, from northernCalifornia; Sherry Hicks, co-founder of Half-n-Half, ASL Entertainment and co-author of “Hearing, Mother Father Deaf” and other college planning experts.

The Tween Minicamp provides children from ages 7-11 to enjoy camp-like activities with a KODA influence. The childcare session will be providing children age 6 and under with arts and crafts as well as games; food and snacks will be on hand at all times.

The event will be held at 2222 Laverna Avenue in Los Angeles, CA.
