LAUREL CANYON—The Los Angeles Police Department arrested Kurtis King, 52, of Rialto, for his role in the stabbing of John David Bannan III. According to the LAPD Blog, on Wednesday, January 10, North Hollywood Area patrol officers received a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon Cutting, man down, near the 6000 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers found Bannan suffering from multiple stab wounds. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced the victim deceased around 9:15 a.m. Officers secured the scene and contacted Valley Bureau Homicide. Valley Bureau Homicide personnel responded and processed the crime scene and gathered evidence of the incident. Bannan III, a local transient, appeared to have been pan handling outside of the business and exchanged words with King he exited the business.

The nature of the verbal exchange is unknown now at the present time, but what Bannan said to King incited the suspect. King returned in a vehicle, quickly exited and rushed the victim, tackling him on the sidewalk just north of the store. He stabbed the Bannan five to six times before fleeing the scene.
