HOLLYWOOD—This week’s Leading Ladies Gold Standard goes to three beautiful actresses who portray women who make foolish decisions when it comes to falling in love with the wrong guy. Kim Matula, who portrays Hope Logan on “The Bold and the Beautiful”; Sharon Case, who portrays Sharon Newman on “The Young and the Restless”; and Cristel Khalil, who portrays Lily Winters Ashby on “Y&R,” dominated their storylines and found out shocking things about the men they love. Their performances seemed second nature to all of them, due to their talent and ability to transition into highly dramatic scenes with ease.

Kim Matula has showed us that she has the acting chops to play with the best actors on “B&B.” After falling in love with Oliver, Hope found out that her sexy mother Brooke slept with him the night of Hope’s graduation. Those scenes were highly emotional and dramatic, and Kim did her work with aplomb. Just this week Hope confronted Amber Moore, who blurted out that she’s pregnant by Hope’s new boyfriend Liam. In the meantime, Hope held her own in a well-written argument with Amber. Kim Matula did an even more brilliant job in showing us her continued growth as an actress.

Sharon Case is nothing if not a solid actress. This week Sharon was arrested for murdering her boyfriend’s wife, Skye. The scenes in which Sharon was in jail defiant to Victor and Nick were amazing. However, when she stared her longtime nemesis Phyllis down and told her, “If I ever killed anyone, it would be you,” she made my arm hair stand up. The ability Case has to portray a woman who constantly falls in and out of love is fabulous, but her ability to play mean this week was chilling.

Cristel Khalil is one of the most beautiful young ingénues in Hollywood. However, her character Lily is constantly making poor choices when it comes to men. Her first marriage ended in divorce because her young husband was addicted to porn. Now Lily is married to a habitual liar. Despite all of this, Cristel’s genius as an actress pours through every scene. She is so deserving of an Emmy nomination.

“Y&R” and “B&B” air weekdays on CBS.
