HOLLYWOOD—Actor David Proval, star of “Mean Streets” and “The Sopranos,” is teaching Advanced Acting classes for the professional actor at The Hudson Theatre in Hollywood. The actor who made his film debut in Martin Scorsese’s highly acclaimed “Mean Streets” went on to develop a body of work filled with unique characters. Most well known as Richie Aprile on HBO’s acclaimed hit series “The Sopranos.” Proval is one of the most prolific actors today. We both star in the upcoming “Queen of the Lot,” by filmmaker Henry Jaglom; he also starred in “The Shawshank Redemption.” Another standout performance for the prolific actor was in the film “Nunzio,” which Proval played a mentally disabled man who believed he was superman. This role landed him a Best Actor-nomination at the Toronto Film Festival.

An accomplished stage actor, Proval made his Broadway debut in “Requiem for a Heavyweight,” in which he played, Army opposite John Lithgow’s Mountain, receiving a Drama Desk Nomination for his work in this production. Proval also garnered attention for roles on TV in David E. Kelley’s “Picket Fences,” Rabbi Glassman in Aaron Sorkin’s “West Wing” and Signore Fignorelli in Phillip Rosenthal’s “Everybody Loves Raymond.”

Proval recently finished a 10-month run in the critically acclaimed play “Just 45 Minutes From Broadway” directed by Gary Imhoff at the Edgemar Center for Arts in Santa Monica. A lifetime member of the Actor’s Studio and trained under the tutelage of Lee Strasberg, Uta Hagen, Bill Hickey and Jack Waltzer, Proval is also a renowned acting teacher and coach. Former students include Eddie Murphy, Andy Garcia, Steven Bauer, John Voight, Meg Tilly, Patrick Swayze and Terri Garr.

Proval tells Canyon News, “I am excited about this session. Every year we get so many amazing young people who want to become better at their craft and you never know who you may run into here at the theatre.” “Just 45 Minutes” costar and teaching assistant David Garver adds, “Tommy, over the past year I have had the immense pleasure of sharing the stage with and learning from David and now have the privilege of assisting him in the classroom. I can’t tell you enough how much I have gained from working with him.”
