HOLLYWOOD—There were plenty of surprises at the box-office over the Fourth of July weekend. With “Terminator: Genisys” and “Magic Mike XXL” arriving in theaters it was a given “Jurassic World” would be knocked out of the top spot, right? Yep. The animated flick “Inside Out” earned $29.7 million. The flick barely beat the dinosaurs which earned $29.2 million. “Jurassic World” has now become the fourth highest grossing flick at the domestic box-office.
“Terminator: Genisys” landed in third place with $28.7 million. Since its release on Wednesday, the fifth installment in the franchise earned over $44.2 million.
“Magic Mike XXL,” while no flop, failed to inspire female fans with a disappointing $12 million over the weekend. Since its release on July 1, the movie has earned over $27 million. Not bad for a flick that cost only $15 million to make.
Rounding out the top five was the comedy “Ted” with only $11 million. Ted dropped over 60 percent in its second weekend in theaters. This might be a summer of sequels and reboots, but it appears audiences are not as interested.
This weekend sees the release of “Minions,” “The Gallows” and “Selfless.” With so much competition I think “Jurassic World” will finally fall out of the top spot.
