MALIBU—The city of Malibu was bestowed with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Fiscal Year 2014-2015 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

Malibu was awarded for its continual transparency in financial reporting and excellence in bookkeeping, record filing, and overall financial management.

The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals. The Certificate of Achievement that the GFOA gives out is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting.

“I am extremely proud that the City has earned this award because it demonstrates Malibu’s commitment to transparency, responsible management of the public’s funds, and overall good governance,” said Mayor Laura Rosenthal in a press release. “I applaud the meticulous work of our recently appointed City Manager Reva Feldman, who, as Assistant City Manager, has lead the City’s outstanding budget and finance management for years.”

The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report was judged by a panel on the merit that it met the high standards of the program. This included demonstrating clear communication of its financial story and offering full disclosure to encourage people to read the CAFR.

This the 15th time the city of Malibu has received the prestigious award.
