CALIFORNIA—A North Hollywood man was arraigned in court on Monday, November 7 for the alleged stabbing death of his daughter.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Noe Torres, 48, was arraigned on one count of murder and assault on his 13-month-old child. Arson charges were also filed against Torres due to setting his family’s apartment on fire after the stabbing.

The incident occurred on October 21 at an apartment unit located on the 13000 block of Vanowen Street. The incident resulted from a dispute between Torres and his daughter’s mother. He stabbed his daughter Rosario T. with a knife during the argument, prosecutors noted.

The suspect stabbed himself with another kitchen knife before setting fire to the second-story apartment, and jumping out the window, while partly engulfed in flames.

Los Angeles Police Captain Stephen Carmona told KTLA news, Torres was found with burns and the knife still lodged in his body. Carmona added that Torres had to be subdued by authorities. Police used bean bag rounds and a Taser before taking the suspect into custody. Rosario T. died from injuries she sustained while at a local hospital with her mother.

Torres is being held on $2 million bail and could face up to 34 years to life in prison if convicted. The Los Angeles Police Department, Juvenile Division is investigation the case.
