LAUREL CANYON—On Wednesday, March 6 a man barricaded himself in a home located in Valley Village. Officials from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to investigate a call regarding possible gunshots being fired.

The standoff began about 5:30 p.m. on the 12300 block of Burbank Boulevard, between Whitsett Avenue and Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

A SWAT team was summoned to negotiate with the suspect, who was believed to be intoxicated. Officers waited for the suspect to sober up before arresting him. He was taken into custody at around 9:45 p.m.

Several apartment buildings were evacuated during the standoff. Residents were allowed to return to their homes after the suspect was taken into custody.

LAPD Captain Don Graham said in an interview with NBC 4 Los Angeles “This is the way we want all of these (standoffs) to end, no loss of life, no injuries. While the community is impacted, the reverence for life overcomes all of that, which is why we come out with the resources that we do.”

Canyon News attempted to reach out to the Los Angeles Police Department for additional information but could not be reached.
